Class 4 Laser Therapy

Light-Based Therapy for Pain & Mobility. A Non-Invasive Option That May Complement Your Care Plan.

Class 4 therapeutic lasers deliver infrared light energy to targeted areas of the body. Depending on the device and its cleared indications, therapeutic laser treatment may be used for temporary relief of certain minor muscle and joint aches, pain and stiffness.

At BioRenew Integrative Medicine, laser therapy is not treated as a one-size-fits-all solution. Kimberly Pierson, PA-C evaluates the problem first and determines whether laser therapy may have a role on its own or alongside other pain, mobility or regenerative medicine strategies.

Non-Invasive

Laser application does not require needles, injections or incisions.

Targeted Application

Treatment is directed to the anatomical area identified in the care plan.

Comfort & Mobility Focused

Cleared indications may include temporary relief of certain minor muscle and joint pain and stiffness.

Individualized Care

Treatment parameters and frequency are based on the patient's evaluation and plan.

Understanding Class 4 Laser Therapy

What Does “Class 4” Mean?

“Class 4” refers to the laser's power and safety classification. It does not describe a disease, diagnosis or guaranteed treatment result.

Therapeutic Class 4 laser systems use controlled light energy delivered through a treatment handpiece. Specific wavelength, power, treatment time and delivery settings vary by device, treatment area and clinical protocol.

Because Class 4 lasers operate at higher output levels, appropriate training, treatment protocols and wavelength-specific protective eyewear are important parts of safe clinical use.

  • Non-invasive application
  • Infrared light energy
  • Targeted treatment area
  • Adjustable treatment parameters
  • Clinician-directed protocols
  • Protective eyewear required
  • No needles or injections
  • Individualized treatment planning
FDA-Cleared Uses

What Therapeutic Laser Systems May Be Cleared to Do

Minor Muscle & Joint Pain

Certain infrared therapeutic laser systems have FDA-cleared indications for temporary relief of minor muscle and joint aches and pain.

Joint Stiffness & Arthritis-Related Discomfort

Depending on the specific device labeling, indications may include temporary relief of minor joint stiffness and minor pain and stiffness associated with arthritis.

Muscle Spasm & Relaxation

Certain cleared systems are indicated for temporary relief of muscle spasm and for helping temporarily relax muscle tissue.

Local Circulation

Certain therapeutic infrared laser devices are cleared for temporarily increasing local blood circulation in the area where treatment is applied.

Role in Pain & Regenerative Care

Laser Therapy Can Be One Part of a Broader Treatment Strategy

At BioRenew, the goal is not to treat every patient with the same device or procedure. Laser therapy may be considered when its cleared uses and clinical role fit the patient's symptoms, findings and treatment goals.

In a pain and mobility setting, laser therapy may be used independently or as an adjunct to other clinician-directed strategies. In regenerative medicine, it may also be incorporated into a broader care plan before or after another procedure when Kimberly determines that doing so is appropriate.

Calling laser therapy an adjunct to regenerative care does not mean that the laser itself is being represented as regenerating cartilage, rebuilding tendons, repairing nerves or guaranteeing tissue healing.

What To Expect

Your Class 4 Laser Treatment Path

1

Evaluate the Problem

Kimberly first evaluates what is bothering you, your functional limitations and what you hope to improve.

2

Determine Whether Laser Fits

Laser therapy is considered based on the clinical findings, treatment goals and whether the intended use is appropriate for the individual situation.

3

Apply the Treatment

When appropriate, the laser handpiece is applied over the selected treatment area using clinician-selected parameters.

4

Evaluate Your Response

Your response and functional progress help guide whether additional sessions or other treatment strategies should be considered.

Frequently Asked Questions

Class 4 Laser Therapy Questions

Is Class 4 laser therapy FDA cleared?

Specific laser devices may be FDA cleared for defined indications. Common cleared indications for certain therapeutic infrared systems include temporary relief of minor muscle and joint aches, pain and stiffness, muscle spasm, minor arthritis-related pain and stiffness, temporary muscle relaxation and temporary increases in local circulation. The exact indications depend on the specific device.

Does laser therapy regenerate damaged tissue?

BioRenew does not promise that Class 4 laser therapy will regenerate cartilage, repair a torn tendon, restore damaged nerves or reverse a disease process. Treatment goals and reasonable expectations depend on the individual patient and the intended use of the device.

What does Class 4 laser treatment feel like?

Patient experience varies by device, treatment parameters and treatment area. Some therapeutic infrared laser applications may produce a comfortable warming sensation. Kimberly monitors the treatment and patient feedback throughout the session.

Move With More Confidence

Could Class 4 Laser Therapy Fit Into Your Care Plan?

The goal isn't to choose a technology simply because it sounds advanced. The first step is understanding what's contributing to your pain or mobility limitation and determining which treatment options make sense for you.

A comprehensive consultation with Kimberly Pierson, PA-C can help evaluate your concern and determine whether Class 4 laser therapy—alone or as part of a broader pain, mobility or regenerative medicine plan—may be appropriate.

Important Information: “Class 4” refers to a laser safety and output classification and does not by itself establish a treatment indication. FDA-cleared indications vary by the specific laser device and its labeling. Therapeutic infrared laser systems may be cleared for defined uses including temporary relief of certain minor muscle and joint aches, pain and stiffness, temporary relief of minor arthritis-related pain and stiffness, temporary relief of muscle spasm, temporary muscle relaxation and temporary increases in local blood circulation. Laser therapy does not guarantee a particular clinical outcome. BioRenew does not represent Class 4 laser therapy as a cure for disease or guarantee that it will regenerate cartilage, repair damaged tissue or eliminate pain. Individual responses vary. Information on this page is for general educational purposes and does not constitute medical advice. A clinical evaluation is required before treatment is recommended.
